The entire meeting agenda can be viewed at: May 20, 2021 BOE Meeting
Staff Recognition
During this anomalous year, the Employee Recognition Committee decided to forego the annual employee recognition banquet where a district teacher, support employee, and volunteer of the year are typically announced, and instead recognize every staff member as employee of the year. Each day of the week during May10 -15, employees were recognized in different ways such as everyone receiving an Employee of the Year pin and gratitude t-shirt, lunch tickets, retiree celebration, and everyone encouraged to wear a certain color each day to recognize specific employee groups. Board members shared their experiences participating in these events.
Curriculum and Instruction
The Board received an update on concurrent instruction of in-person and hybrid learning at GHS, a plan for envisioning Martin City as an authentic K8 learning site, and end-of-yaer assessments.
Budget Forecast
A three-year budget forecast was presented to the Board. It is anticipated that there will be revenue increases as a result of the County’s reassessment of property values, the voter approved levy increase, and restoration of some State Aid funding. Expenditures will also rise due to increases in compensation, benefits and retirement costs, as well as additional funding needs anticipated for instructional resources. Fund balances for the end of the current year will fall within the Board goal of 18% +/- 2% and are anticipated to remain within the goal for the following 3 years with appropriate reallocations.
Bond Projects
The Board approved contracts for enlarging classrooms in the MC library, Transportation pavement repairs, and adding pressure regulating valves at several sites.
Redemption of Bonds
The Board approved authorizing the redemption of $3,525,000 in bonds which will result in future interest savings of approximately $368,500.
