Program Evaluations
The Board reviewed program evaluations for English Language Learners (ELL) and for School Counseling. The number of ELL students served increased by 94 students over the previous year. The ELL evaluation identified areas were additional staffing and professional development is needed. The School Counseling evaluation identified areas to streamline, refine or consolidate elements of the program, as well as staffing and professional development recommendations.
Curriculum and Instruction (C & I) Update
The C & I team presented spring iReady data to the Board which showed significant improvement in both reading and math. While national trends show schools across the nation are still struggling to reach pre-COVID performance, Grandview C-4 overall, as well as most individual GC4 schools, have returned to or are nearing pre-COVID performance in reading and math.
District Rebranding Initiative
Over the course of the 2021-2022 school year, the communications department began exploring the possibility of rebranding our school district to better align with our initiatives and priorities. Included with this project was the creation of new district and school logos as well as a redesign or the bulldog logo, which could be owned exclusively by the district. The process began in September and concluded in May after several rounds of feedback from stakeholders and several revisions. The new brand concept will be rolled out during the 2022-23 school year.
Safety Survey
Results of the spring safety survey were shared with the Board. The survey indicated that 91% of elementary students feel safe in their classroom and 93% of middle school students reported that students treat each other respectfully and over 86% of parents feel the schools follow up on threats in a timely manner. While the results of the study show many positive trends, they also indicate where improvement is still needed.
