He moved to Kansas City as a Teach For America corps member and started teaching elementary in Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS). He taught for seven years, teaching elementary through high school grades. He wanted to expand his impact on students and wanted to help coach teachers to improve their craft, so he pursued a Master's in Educational Leadership through Park University. He started as a resident Vice Principal at East High School for two years and then helped reopen Lincoln College Preparatory Academy Middle School as a Vice Principal. He served as an administrator for six years in KCPS, including one year as an interim principal.
