Community Partners
The Board heard presentations from PREP-KC and Cass Community Health Foundation (CCHF). PREP-KC partners with the district to provide opportunities for students to attain market value assets such as industry recognized credentials, entrepreneurial experiences, internships and college credits. CCHF provides dental screenings and services for Grandview C-4 students who may not otherwise have access to dentistry.
Adoption of Tax Levy
The Board approved a tax levy rate of $4.2954 for General and Teacher (Combined) Operating Funds, and $1.3666 for the Debt Service Fund, for a total Tax Levy Rate of $5.6620 for 2023, which is a decrease of 29 cents from last year’s tax rate of 5.9559. A tax levy hearing was held prior to the regular open meeting.
Strategic Plan Review
The Board reviewed outcomes from year 4 of the 2019-2024 Strategic Plan in five Focus Areas: Strategic Governance, Student Success, Workforce Excellence, Resource Stewardship & Organizational Efficiency, and Family/Community Involvement.
GHS Basketball Court Naming
The Board approved a recommendation to name the GHS north gymnasium floor ‘Alec Burks Court’ in recognition of GHS alum and NBA player Alec Burks. Mr. Burks, who graduated in 2009, has conducted free annual basketball camps in Grandview, purchased basketball shoes, championship rings for our state championship teams in 2017 and 2018, paid for renovations to the athletic locker rooms and will be contributing funds to upgrade the scoreboard in the gym. His generosity over the years is a testament to how alumni can make a difference in the lives of our current students.
Board of Education Candidate Informational Meeting
The Board President announced that an informational meeting for district patrons who may be interested in serving on the Board of Education will be held on November 1, 2023. Attendees will learn about the qualifications, roles and responsibilities, time commitment, and filing dates for the April 2024 Board of Education election.
