Program Evaluations
The Title I Early Childhood program provided five days of instructional programming for 15 at-risk four-year olds who will transition into kindergarten. The program will be restructured to half day instruction in order to serve more students. Six parent educators with the Parents As Teachers program provided 908 personal visits to 143 children/families and provided screening to a total of 553 children ages 3 months to five years. Numerous site specific events promote community involvement around instruction however, the district lacks district-wide coordination on Community Education.
Class Size Standards
The Board approved waiving the Grandview C4 class size standards to provide more flexibility in scheduling students for the 2017-18 school year. Class sizes will meet the Missouri School Improvement Program guidelines, and it is anticipated that only a few classes will exceed the Grandview standards.
Coordinator of Pupil Services
The Board restored the Coordinator of Pupil Services position to better serve the needs of students and families, as well as to coordinate the district-wide Community Education program.
Estimated Tax Levies
The administration estimates that tax will remain unchanged from the current year rate of $5.0047 operating levy and $0.80 debt service for a total estimated tax of $5.8047. The tax levies are generally set at the September Board meeting.
Budget Update
Based on current information, it is estimated the district will end the current fiscal year with reserves of 18.1%, which is in line with the district goal of 16% - 20%. Without reallocations next year, it is estimated that reserves would fall below the goal to 15.58% and to 13.78% the following year.
Wellness Program
Recognizing the relationship between student well-being and student achievement, the district has established a Wellness Plan that includes five focus areas. Information can be found on the district website under ‘Programs’.
