Battle of the Brains Winners
The Board recognized the CAIR FOCUS program students who were the Battle of the Brains grand prize winners. Grandview’s proposal topped the other 819 submissions from 250 area schools. They won $50,000 and an opportunity to work with Burns & McDonnell engineers to create and build a million dollar exhibit for Science City. Their proposal, The Big Brain Theory, explores the human brain in all its complexities through interactive displays.
Accreditation
The Board received a letter from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) stating that the State Board of Education has classified Grandview C-4 as accredited under the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP5).
A+ Program
The A+ Program annual evaluation was approved by the Board of Education. Since the district’s A+ program received designation from the state, participation has increased from 256 students in 2012 to 473 students in 2017. Eligible A+ graduates have accessed over $155,735 in community benefit funding for their college expenses.
School Improvement Plans
Belvidere and Meadowmere principals presented their school improvement plans. Belvidere, which scored 100% on the state’s Annual Performance Report (APR) for the fourth consecutive year, identified goals focused on increasing achievement in English Language Arts, Math and Science, promoting safety and enhancing technology usage for instruction. Meadowmere identified improving school culture, and increasing Math and Science achievement as their primary goals for the year.
Resolution on Advocating Equity
Aware that there will likely be a push for legislation supporting expansion of charter schools, the Board of Education adopted a resolution advocating equity in Missouri public schools. The Board supports all public schools, including charter schools, being held to the same high standard for academic performance, access, accountability and transparency.
