Robotics Competition
The Board viewed a video of the Meadowmere Elementary robotics team, Mechanical Maniacs, participating in this year’s First Lego League Robotics Regional Championships. The Mechanical Maniacs won first place for Robot Design.
Program Evaluations
The Board of Education approved the program evaluations for Transportation and for Safety. The Transportation Department logged nearly 370,000 miles last year. Thirteen new buses were purchased raising the average age of the current fleet to 9 years. New routing software has assisted with improving routing efficiency. New cameras were installed on buses in December. Recruiting and retaining qualified drivers remains a challenge. The District Safety committee has been reframed info ‘safety silos’ which include evaluation of physical plant safety, student safety, staff safety and crisis management to better prioritize and address safety issues. District-wide upgrades to fire alarm systems will be completed this summer.
Official January Enrollment
Each year the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requires all school districts to submit official student enrollment on the last Wednesday in September and January. The official student enrollment count for Grandview C4 on January 31, 2018 was 3978. This is a decrease as compared to January 2017 enrollment. The decrease has occurred mostly at the secondary level. Administration will continue to monitor and evaluate enrollment data.
Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Report
The Board received the annual EEO report for calendar year 2017 which provides information regarding employment distribution by race and gender in job classifications. The district has 40% minority representation in the professional administrative staff and 57% of the administrative positions are held by women. The minority representation for all employees for 2017 was 29.46%.
Summer Bond Projects
The Board approved four bond projects (facilities improvement projects using funds from voter approved sale of bonds) to be completed over the summer: replacement of exterior canopies at Meadowmere Elementary; partial roof replacement at High Grove Early Childhood Center; fire alarm upgrades at Martin City School; window replacement at 1121 Main which is leased to the Grandview Assistance Program.
