Project Lead the Way (PLTW)

The Superintendent shared a video on PLTW.  Teachers from several states visited GMS and Belvidere Elementary to tour PLTW classrooms and speak with students.  Only three schools in the metro area were invited to host a tour and two of the three were Grandview C4 schools.  View the video at: https://youtu.be/t-kMwVFX-50

School Improvement Plans (SIPs)

The Board heard the SIP presentation for the Center for Alternative Instructional Resources (CAIR).  CAIR programming includes FOCUS, Transitions, Missouri Options and Crossroads. Goals for this year are increasing academic performance, and improving student engagement and motivation.

A+ Program

Participation in the A+ Program since the program was first offered at GHS in 2012 has increased from 256 students in 2011/12 to 504 students in 2017/18.  Twenty two percent of the Class of 2018 are currently accessing classes at Metropolitan Community Colleges.  A+ students are required to complete 50 hours of peer tutoring/mentoring services. A+ student volunteers have supported numerous school and community events.

Trauma Informed Care

Representatives from Cornerstones of Care shared information on social/emotional screenings that took place earlier this semester.  Of the 1,024 students in the third, fourth and fifth grades across the district, 431 children (42%) were screened.  Following the screenings, Cornerstones of Care provides follow-up services for students scoring in elevated risk areas.
