The entire meeting agenda can be viewed at: January 17, 2019 BOE Meeting
Program Evaluations
Program Evaluations for Library Media and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming were presented to the Board. All schools are staffed with full-time certified librarians. Capital outlays are used primarily to purchase and upgrade technology and furniture. Grandview C-4 was recognized as a 100% "Access for All" district after expanding programs in the engineering, computer science, and biomedical pathways to kindergarten. This K-12 focus on career education shows the district's focus on ensuring that all students are exposed technology from an early age.
School Improvement Plans (SIPs)
The Board heard the SIP presentation for Butcher-Greene (BG) and Conn-West (CW) Elementary schools. BG goals include increasing student proficiency, promoting a positive climate and improving attendance. CW goals for this year are increasing academic performance, enhancing instructional technology and promoting a collaborative environment.
iReady Assessments
Results from the iReady Winter Diagnostic showed solid growth in all grade levels in both Math and Reading. This assessment provides schools and the district with a detailed analysis of where a student’s level of proficiency is regarding grade level expectations. The skills analysis provides accompanying plans and materials to facilitate multi-tiered support for struggling students.
Bond Projects
The Board approved the next phase of GHS stadium upgrades which includes replacement of bleachers for ADA compliance and to increase seating capacity; replacing the press box, and purchase of a scoreboard that would produce a revenue stream through advertising.
Caring for Kids
A representative from the Caring for Kids organization provided the Board with an update on their partnership with the district to mobilize community groups, businesses, and churches in support of schools and students.
2019-2020 School Calendar
The Board adopted the calendar for 2019-2020. The calendar establishes eight full day non-student attendance days, eliminating all but two half days, which allows greater flexibility for professional development and collaboration. Students will attend fewer days, however, five minutes will be added to the site attendance schedules in order to provide the same number of attendance hours.
